Improving Independence

The role of a Township Committee is very important. Township Committee members are responsible for overseeing the budgets that essentially run our town. In addition, they are responsible for proposing and approving various ordinances that help shape and mold our community.

During the 9 years I have lived here, I have seen several areas that our Township Committee needs to improve.

Here are just a couple of examples:

Communication:

Communication to our residents is poor. There has been and continues to be significant issues in Independence Township that can greatly impact our schools, taxes, and property values. Unfortunately, these issues are usually communicated by residents via word of mouth and second-hand information. Usually, some residents find out about these issues 24 to 48 hours before an important meeting. Many residents are never aware or informed on what is happening.

If elected, I would like to bring Independence Township into the 21st century.

I would like start by seeing our web site enhanced so that it is more interactive between the residents and the town. Wouldn’t it be nice for the town to send YOU an email that alerts and educates YOU of a concerning development in our community? This solution is simple and cost effective.

Ordinances:

I am also concerned about town ordinances and the lack of them in Independence Township. Did you know that Independence just finally passed a noise ordinance? Why? Because it took some residents to complain about a careless neighbor who was disturbing their quality of life! The proposed quarry on Alphano road was another example of individuals who found a legal loophole in our ordinances that could exploit the community for personal gain.

If elected, I will strive to update our ordinances and close legal loopholes to protect our residents and community.
