Open Space vs Building
Open Space:
I believe that Open Space is what makes Independence Township such an attractive place to live. New Jersey has the highest concentration of people per square mile. The Northwest corridor of New Jersey remains as one of the last rural areas. Urban sprawl certainly threatens this section of New Jersey. My hope is to see Independence Township as well as Warren County maintain its rural appeal.
Development:
As a supporter to Open Space, I do not wish to be accused of being anti-growth. I am actually pro-growth in areas where it makes sense. It is imperative that Independence continue to grow at a reasonable rate. It is very important for Independence to continue to attract businesses whose rateables are essential in helping with our growing tax burdens. This also can be applied to residential development.
* The key is to have a balanced approach that is respectful to the natural beauty that is Independence Township, as well as a responsible growth strategy that helps our residents with growing tax burdens.
